Another great cottage find! If you are looking for a place to walk around and waste the day away exploring, then head towards Marmora, Ontario (east of Peterborough by about an hour). There is a small natural park area on the Crowe River (just south of Marmora) called Callaghan’s Rapids. The park is named after this special section of the river that flows over huge plates of limestone left there from the last glaciers thousands of years ago.
It is easy to walk up and down the river that is only about 6” to 12” deep but you probably want water shoes or sandals as it is a little slippery. You can also take chairs and sit in the water to relax and eat a picnic lunch. We saw people playing Frisbee or a football would be fun. Kids were excited to see little minnows swimming in the shallow water and pools. In addition, there are a couple sets of small waterfalls that you can stand in or even crawl under to see the rushing water splash over you. I’m sure you could even take tubes to ride down the river. It’s beautiful scenery and a way to stay cool and see beautiful Ontario.
Take Tiffen Rd. South then turn left East of Callaghan Rapids Rd to the end where there is a little parking area and then a small dirt path to the river.
